
Getting More Out of Your Aoki Blow-Molding Machine
I get asked this all the time by plant managers: “Can I actually speed up an old Aoki blower just by swapping the infrared lamps?” The answer is yes. But there’s a catch—you have to make sure the new lamps actually play nice with your specific preforms. The heat game If you want to push more bottles through the line, you need to heat those preforms faster. But you can’t just crank the heat blindly, or you’ll end up with “pearlization” or a melted base. That’s why we lean toward high-wattage, short-wave infrared lamps. By packing more wattage into every millimeter, you cut down the time the preform has to sit in the oven. Just a heads-up: check your power supply before you start. If you plug a 230V lamp into a 400V circuit, it’ll pop instantly. Not a great way to start the shift. The nitty-gritty on fitment We use heavy-wall quartz glass because it can handle the stress of rapid heating and cooling without cracking. These are designed to be drop-in replacements, so they fit the Aoki footprint perfectly. We also stick to R7s or SK15 connectors. Why? Because a loose connection is a nightmare. It leads to arcing, which fries your sockets and shuts you down. Plus, we have coated versions that bounce the heat back toward the preform instead of letting it soak into the oven walls. It’s just a smarter way to use your energy. What to watch out for Here’s the thing: more heat isn’t a magic fix. When you put in high-density lamps to chase a higher bottle count, the oven gets a lot hotter inside. Your cooling fans and vents have to keep up with that extra load. If your airflow is clogged or just too weak, you’ll start seeing uneven heating across the preform wall. At the end of the day, replacing worn-out lamps gets you back to where you started. But upgrading them? That’s how you shave seconds off your cycle and actually move the needle on your daily output.
