
Staying Warm in Wet Spaces
Ever tried to warm up a big, open changing area with a standard heater? It never works. The warm air just floats up to the ceiling while you’re left shivering in the draft. We figured out a better way: shortwave infrared (IR) emitters. Instead of trying to heat the air, these lamps send energy straight to your skin and the surfaces around you. It’s the difference between waiting for a room to warm up and feeling the heat the very second you flip the switch.
How it actually works
We use quartz tubes filled with halogen. Why? Because it lets us pack a ton of power into a tiny space. The halogen keeps the filament from wearing out too fast, so the lamps last longer even when they’re running hot. Since we’re focusing on the shortwave spectrum, the heat doesn’t just sit on the surface—it sinks in. It’s the only way to turn a freezing dressing room into a cozy spot in a matter of seconds.
The nitty-gritty on setup
Most of our gear uses R7s or Sk15 connectors. We did this so you can just drop them in and replace them without a headache. We go with high-wattage options because if you’ve got high ceilings, you need that extra push to actually feel the heat down where you’re standing. Just a heads-up: make sure your wiring can handle that initial surge of power when they kick on. And if you’re putting these in a steamy bathroom,get an IP-rated housing. You really don’t want moisture getting into the electrical terminals.
A few things to watch out for
Now, these lamps are powerful, but that comes with a couple of catches. First, they create intense hotspots. If you mount them too low, you’re going to burn someone. Stick to the recommended clearance distance so it feels comfortable, not scorching. Second, quartz is fragile. One bad bump from a heavy bag or a piece of equipment and the vacuum seal breaks.
